The Acts of a Desperate Mother

There are times when a commit certain acts, as a mom, because I am tired and desperate. Here are just a few:

There have been many occasions where my children watch entirely too much T.V. because a.) I need to get house work done or b.) I just need time for me.

There have been several occasions where the kids have eaten cereal for breakfast, lunch, and yes even dinner.

There have been times where I have put my kids in the bath in the middle of the day, given them 2 or even 3 popsicles each and they come out looking wrinkled because they've stay in so long. This usually happens if they've exhausted every other outlet to keep busy and just need something fun to do. For my part, I usually put in ear plugs, sit on the floor beside the tub and read a book.

These acts I except as a desperate, tired, and for a major part of the time a "single parent". But this morning at around four o'clock I reached my lowest point of desperation.

The scene went something like this: Jack got in bed with me, for the fourth morning in a row, at about 4:45 or 5:00am. Instead of going back to sleep, he lays beside me and plays, giggles, and ask me 20 questions. While normally I would enjoy such interactions, I can't say that this hour finds me ready to engage with my son. So here's where the desperation comes in. After about 30 minute of this behavior I roll over, look my two-year-old in the eyes and say, "Jack, mommy will give you a dollar if you'll just go back to sleep." Such are the acts of a tried, desperate 24 hour a day mother.

From the picture, it looks like it worked; he went back to sleep. I say that is a wise and rather coherent mother for 5 am.

Oh boy, have I been there!! I break lots of rules: babies in bed with me, lots of TV, a messy house and in my PJ's until 4:30, reading all day, and the list goes on! I've never thought of the money in the night thing...which is too bad because we have had kids wide awake at that hour many times! And I think you are a great mom!
