There are days or events in history that should always be remembered. While not in my lifetime, events such as the evils of slavery, the holocaust, and the life of Martin Luther King should never be forgotten. Those who lived in these historical times will probably always recall where they were and what they were doing when this events unfolded.
One event that did occur in my lifetime and will forever remain etched on my heart is that of 9/11. Jesse and I were living in Oklahoma above the funeral home and were expecting our first child. I was watching the Today Show when the story broke and I remember watching the T.V. in disbelief. At the time, my thoughts and prayers went out to the men and women on the flights that were used as weapons that day. It did not occur to me that the towers would fall and the extent of the lives that would be lost.
Days following the tragedy I remember a news cast reporting on the number of women who were also pregnant and who lost their husbands during the attacks. My heart broke for the road that lay ahead of these women and for their unborn children. There are many reasons why I will never forget 9/11 and these children are among those reasons. How could we dare forget an event that took these children's father's away from them. Shame on anyone who ever considers the thought of making 9/11 just an event that happened in our history instead of a vivid memory in our present. To see all their beautiful faces go here.

Thank you for sharing your passinate tribute. I loved the pictures of those children and hope they have happiness and wonderful memories. Many children lost mothers also.
That picture is so powerful!
Sean was in fourth grade and Connor was about to turn one when this tragedy struck us. Each year since, we listen to Alan Jackson's "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" on our way to school and on our way home on September 11th.
